Willyabrup to Gracetown and onto Ellensbrook approx. 15km.
We take transport from Rotary Park to Willyabrup road 25kms away. After climbing a stile, walk through lovely open countryside, crossing Biljenup brook and arriving at the top of Willyabrup cliffs with wide open views of the Indian Ocean. Turning south along an easy cliff top path and down steps to Cullen’s beach and up to the clifftop again. there are a couple of viewing platforms along this stretch. After awesome views of crashing waves on ocean rocks we cross Veryiuca brook, Through Whaleback Bay- a low granite headland. Then follow a flat rocky path through granite outcrops and a cascading stream. After a shady path through a poison pea thicket we reach Gracetown town site on Cowaramup Bay, where we can have a coffee/roll at the café/shop here. It is a lovely quiet natural place.
Along the South point headland we turn south on a relaxing easy path through native bush and there are excellent coastal views all the way to Ellensbrook. At Ellensbrook is the Historical Homestead, This is a Significant spiritual area for the Wadindi Traditional owners, as it was their summer camp for thousands of years. Further along a track is Meekadarabee Cave and falls, which is also significant to the Wadindi people and there is a story board to read at this site. Later on in mid-1800 s the early Pioneers the Bussle family, built the house as their first family home, and Bussle families lives here for 60 years.
We get transport back to Rotary Park and take time in the Historical Old Settlement in a beautiful riverside setting, these original buildings, beautifully decorated with original furnishings. Run by volunteers, some are descendants from the early Group settlers that came from UK in 1920 s to clear the forested areas and create dairy farms. And then own these farms.
We walk to a very nearby Micro Brewery for a refreshing beer.
